The Embassy of Barbados, Brussels invites suitable applications for the post of Bilingual Secretary to provide a variety of secretarial services for the period of one year.

Responsibilities include, inter alia:

  • Performing the duties of receptionist, including answering, screening and forwarding telephone calls, taking messages, and making both local and international calls as required, receiving visitors to the Chancery, announcing their arrival to the relevant official and directing them to the appropriate meeting room;
  • Drafting basic diplomatic communication, typing, scanning, filing and photocopying;
  • Providing unofficial translation of documents;
  • Opening, recording, and circulating mail;
  • Issuing updates to countries/international organisations in Mission’s jurisdiction on changes to diplomatic staffing and Protocol matters;
  • Arranging travel and accommodations;
  • Updating calendars and responding to invitations
  • Responding to basic public queries;
  • Updating records, sorting information and documents for the upkeep of the Registry, Library and E-registry;
  • Other relevant duties, as assigned.

Applicants should be self-starters and require little supervision, be computer literate, including competent in the use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook, and have an excellent command of the English language. Fluency in French and Flemish/Dutch is required.
