Brussels, 22 January 2019/ACP:On behalf of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the ACP Secretariat, the Secretary General, Dr. Patrick Gomes, strongly condemns the terrorist attacks perpetrated against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), in Aguelhok, Northern Mali. These unfortunate and barbaric attacks have led to 10 deaths of Chadian Nationals and more than 25 injured.

The Secretary General conveys his deepest sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families and wishes, a speedy and full recovery to the wounded. The Secretary General underscores that such attacks only further illustrate the growing and increasingly dangerous threat posed by terrorism in the peace and stability of ACP States.

The Secretary General reiterates ACP Group’s strong support for the efforts by regional organisations and the international community towards the stability of the Sahel region and appeals to the United Nations and the European Union to strengthen its resolve to continue to support the Government of Mali in their efforts to addressing the terrorism scourge.
