Ambassador Macharia Kamau, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya paid a courtesy visit to the ACP Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States to give an update on the progress being made on the planning of the 9th Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government, which will shortly be taking place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

Ambassador Kamau seized the opportunity to share his views on Multilateralism in the context of the ACP Group of States, saying, “The fact that the ACP wants to move towards deeper multilateralism is wonderful… developing countries want to see multilateralism succeed as it is that platform that will give them the leverage they need to be able to negotiate better relations in a world that would allow them to engage most effectively.”

Addressing the theme of the Summit, “A Transformed ACP Committed to Multilateralism”, the Ambassador commended the ACP Member States on having the vision to change gears and adopt a much more transformative programme; “I am pleased to hear that part of the transformation, moving from your current engagement pattern, built around financial cooperation, preferential market access, and political dialogue, and moving deeper into the broader framework of the 2030 agenda is very positive and… it will help you better leverage the outcomes that the ACP aspires for in our world.”
