Brussels, 20 January 2020/ACP: The ACP Secretary General, Dr. Patrick I. Gomes, undertook a working visit to Maputo in the Republic of Mozambique on Wednesday 15 January 2020 to attend the inauguration of His Excellency the President-Elect Mr. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.
Mozambique held presidential, legislative and provincial elections on 15 October 2019. President-Elect Nyusi was declared the winner of the general election and will therefore serve a second term.
Mozambique has always supported the visions and values of the ACP Group and advocated for the strengthening and cohesion of the ACP Group; as evidenced by the fact that the President-Elect, His Excellency Mr. Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, participated last December in the 9th Summit of ACP Heads of State and Government in Nairobi, accompanied by key members of his government. Mozambique, in 2004 also hosted the 4th ACP Summit.
In his congratulatory message to the President-Elect, Dr. Patrick I. Gomes said he looked forward to working with President Nyusi and to supporting his programme to improve the conditions for increased domestic and foreign investment for economic growth, reduction of inequality and poverty eradication.
