Brussels, 26 October 2017/ ACP: The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States has followed with great interest the democratic developments in Kenya. In this regard the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States recalls the historic ruling by the supreme court of Kenya on 1st September 2017 that called for fresh elections to be held on 26 October 2017. The ACP Group commends the people of the Republic of Kenya for going to the polls; this once again illustrates Kenya’s commitment to democratic governance.

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States notes and commends the efforts made by the independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to ensure that the election takes place in a calm manner. The ACP Group calls for peaceful elections and appeals to all concerned to respect the constitution of Kenya and observe the rule of law during this crucial period.

The African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of remains committed to support and stand with the people of the Republic of Kenya as they conduct these pivotal polls.
