STATEMENT BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE ORGANISATION OF AFRICAN, CARIBBEAN AND PACIFIC STATES (OACPS) ON THE ATTEMPTED COUP IN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Secretary-General, H.E. Mr Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, expresses deep concern about the attempted coup in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday 19 May 2024, aimed at overthrowing the democratically elected regime in place.
The Secretary-General strongly condemns the attempted coup which is counter to the democratic values promoted by the OACPS in its Revised Georgetown Agreement.

The OACPS welcomes the fact that the army brought the situation under control and reiterates its support for the institutions of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
