On behalf of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), Secretary-General H.E. Georges Rebelo Chikoti conveys his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of His Excellency  Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, as well as to the Government and the people of the Republic of Malawi, on the passing of the Vice President in a plane crash on the 10th of June, 2024 in Chikangawa forest in Malawi.

The Secretary-General pays tribute to the late Vice President Chilima, a distinguished Pan-Africanist of deep conviction. He will be remembered as a leader of longstanding repute who made significant contributions to the discourse on global challenges and the pursuit of greater regional and continental integration.

The Secretary-General reiterates the OACPS solidarity with the President of the Republic of Malawi, H.E Mr Lazarus Chakwera, the Government and People of Malawi, during this very difficult time.
