Mr Assarid AG IMBARCAOUANE was a Malian Member of Parliament and First Vice President of the Council of National Transition.

He will be remembered by the 79 Members of the OACPS for the leadership role he played previously as President of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly and Co-President of the ACP and European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly and having led the Malian delegation to these assemblies on various occasions, the last one being the inaugural session of the OACPS-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly held in Luanda Angola in February 2024.
In his capacity of former President and member of ACP Parliamentary Assembly, he provided unequaled leadership in the work of these Assemblies. He worked assiduously and steered ACP and EU Parliamentarians in promoting democratic processes through dialogue. He championed the cause of the Sahel and contributed to raising public awareness of socio-economic and development issues, facilitated greater understanding between the peoples of the ACP and the European Union and as a result enhanced their partnership. He was a fearless defender of the rights and interests of the members of the OACPS and fully supported the Secretariat in its work. In his last official task under the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly Honorable Assarid was the Chair of the Committee on Political Affairs.
He was a man of conviction, and as a politician, was attentive, courteous to all and commanded a lot of respect. His unwavering commitment to the objectives and values of the OACPS was unquestionable.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
