The Secretary-General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), His Excellency Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, expresses his deepest sorrow at the passing of His Excellency Hage Geingob, the late President of the Republic of Namibia.

On behalf of the OACPS and himself, Secretary-General Chikoti extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the government, and the people of Namibia. He remembers President Geingob as a remarkable leader and true statesman who contributed significantly to the OACPS and global affairs.

Secretary-General Chikoti recalls President Geingob’s unwavering commitment to unity and collaboration. Notably, during the 9th OACPS Summit in 2019, he emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing shared challenges.

Prior to his presidency, President Geingob’s wisdom and leadership guided trade negotiations, both within the OACPS and with the European Union. He strongly upheld the values of unity, solidarity, peace, security, democratic governance, and the rule of law – values at the core of the OACPS.

President Geingob’s dedication to ending colonialism, particularly in Southern Africa, was unwavering. He played a pivotal role in shaping Namibia’s constitution, a model for good governance and the rule of law. He was also a key architect of Namibia’s independence and remained a visionary leader throughout his career.

His passing leaves a void not only in Namibia and Africa but globally. He will be remembered for his wisdom, vision, and commitment to progress. The OACPS joins the world in mourning this inestimable loss and wishing for eternal peace for his soul.
